In a significant joint operation, the Special Task Force (STF) and Karimganj Police, led by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Parthasarathi Mahanta and Superintendent of Police (SP) Partha Protim Das, successfully seized a substantial quantity of narcotics in Suprakandi, under the jurisdiction of Nilam Bazar Police Station. The operation, conducted at approximately 2:15 pm today, marks one of the most substantial drug busts in Eastern India.

The confiscated items include 5.1 kilograms of heroin, 64,000 Yaba tablets, and four packets of foreign cigarettes. The enforcement agencies also apprehended four individuals in connection with the operation. The vehicle used for transporting the contraband, a Maruti S Presso with registration number MZ 06 A 1422, has been seized as well.

The arrested individuals have been identified as follows:

1. Nur Ahmed (Driver) of Patharkandi, Karimganj.
2. Zosangliani of Thenzawl, Mizoram.
3. Ramngheaka of Thenzawl, Mizoram.
4. Lalchamliana of Thenzawl, Mizoram.

The seized drugs, with an estimated market value of at least Rs. 100 Crores, represent a major blow to the illicit drug trade in the region. The Assam Police have attributed the increasing prices of narcotics in the market to their continuous and effective operations, coupled with aggressive actions against drug trafficking.

The official statement from the Karimganj Police stated, “This joint effort by the STF and Karimganj Police demonstrates our commitment to eradicating the menace of drugs from our region. The seizure of such a substantial quantity is a testament to the diligence and efficiency of our law enforcement agencies.”

The crackdown on drug trafficking in the region has been intensified in recent months, and authorities are determined to curb the illegal trade that poses a threat to the well-being of society. The arrested individuals will face charges related to drug trafficking and could potentially be instrumental in unveiling larger networks involved in the narcotics trade.
