Dream Ranji Trophy Debut for Silchar's Dibakar Johri, dismisses Prithvi Shaw, Rahane; Thakuri top scorer
This is the first time in the history of Assam Cricket, that four players representing the Silchar team have been selected in a Ranji Trophy match. Assam’s last match of the season against Mumbai is being played at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy, Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai. Shardul Thakur wreaked havoc in the inexperienced top order of Assam. Parvez Musharaf from Silchar playing his third match dragged one in from outside the off stump of Thakur’s bowling and that was the beginning of the destruction.
Assam was bundled out for 84, as Shardul Thakur’s demolition continued throughout the day. Thakur, who played in the initial matches of the ICC World Cup, bowled a brilliant spell and picked six wickets. Abhishek Thakuri (32), another player from Silchar, who scored a century in the previous match, was Assam’s top scorer.
In response to Assam’s abysmal first innings total, Mumbai started well. All eyes were on debutant Dibakar Johori who plays his cricket for India Club in Silchar. He was bowling well but did not get wickets and then came the LBW. His first wicket in Ranji Trophy was Prithvi Shaw and then he went on to take the wicket of Mumbai Captain and India Star, Ajinkya Rahane.
Rahul Singh also picked two wickets but could not stop man in form Shivam Dube from scoring another century. At stumps, Mumbai was 217 for the loss of six wickets. All eyes will be on Dibakar Johri tomorrow and how he manages to use the morning conditions.
