Principal of Cachar College Siddhartha Sankar Nath Suspended Amidst Exam Scandal Investigation
In a significant development following the exam scandal at Cachar College in Silchar, Dr. Siddhartha Sankar Nath, the Principal of the college, has been suspended pending a departmental inquiry. The suspension order was issued by the Office of the Director of Higher Education, Assam, located in Kahilipara, Guwahati-19.
Dr. Nath stands accused of involvement in malpractices during the Higher Secondary Examination held on February 19, 2024. The suspension order, numbered E.No.453861/1, cites violations of Section 6, Sub-section 1(a) of the Assam Services (Discipline and Appeal) rules, 1964.
During his suspension, Dr. Nath will receive subsistence allowance as per rules outlined in FR 53 (1) (ii) (a) for the initial three months. Additionally, he is prohibited from leaving the headquarters without prior approval from the competent authority.
The memorandum accompanying the suspension order, Memo E.No.453861/1-A, dated February 21, 2024, was signed by Pomi Baruah, ACS, Director of Higher Education, Assam, based in Kahilipara, Guwahati-19.
This latest development highlights the seriousness with which authorities are addressing the allegations of academic misconduct at Cachar College. The suspension of Dr. Siddhartha Sankar Nath marks a significant step in the ongoing investigation.
It should be noted that earlier the Assam College Teachers Association (ACTA) submitted a memorandum expressing their profound disappointment over the exam scandal at Cachar College. In their memorandum, they demanded the removal of Dr. Siddhartha Sankar Nath from his post as Principal and called for exemplary punishment.
