IPL player Shivam Sharma shines bright in BPL; "Such players uplift the stature of tournament," Himadri Das

The Barak Premier League (BPL), organized by the Silchar Veteran Cricketers’ Club (SVCC), is gaining momentum as a premier T20 cricket tournament featuring top-tier cricketers from across the country.

On day two of the tournament, Shivam Sharma delivered a classic innings, delighting the audience with his exceptional performance. While still in the early stages, match three provided a glimpse of the excitement to come. This year’s tournament commenced later than usual, and with the Satindra Mohan Dev Memorial Stadium serving as a multisport ground, the outfield and pitch conditions are not favoring high-scoring matches, a longing for cricket fans.

Playing for the Hailakandi Stallions against the BMC Academy Hailakandi, Sharma showcased his talent by scoring an unbeaten 60 runs off 45 balls, steering his team to victory. With BMC Academy setting a target of 139 for the Stallions to chase, Sharma’s stellar performance ensured victory with 8 wickets in hand and nine balls to spare. Nirmal Sinha also contributed significantly with an unbeaten 32.

Sharma’s outstanding performance comes as no surprise, considering his previous stint with the Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2014. His impactful debut against the Royal Challengers Bangalore earned him accolades, as he picked two crucial wickets, including those of Yuvraj Singh and Albie Morkel.

Tournament Chairman Himadri Shekhar Das expressed his satisfaction with the inclusion of IPL stars like Shivam Sharma in the BPL, stating that it enhances the tournament’s stature and provides valuable learning opportunities for young cricketers in the region. He also highlighted past instances of domestic cricket stars, like Vivek Singh, participating in the tournament, making it a cherished experience for fans.

According to sources, more IPL stars are expected to grace the ongoing season of the BPL. In the upcoming matches on day three of the tournament, Moonlight Dholai will face Silchar Strikers in the first match, followed by Barak 99 Square taking on the Badarpur Royals in the second match of the day.
