Former Deputy Speaker Aminul Hoque Laskar Resigns from BJP, Set to Join Congress
In a significant political development, Aminul Hoque Laskar, the former Deputy Speaker of Assam and prominent BJP leader, has tendered his resignation from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and is poised to join the Indian National Congress. The formal announcement of his resignation and subsequent move to the Congress is expected to take place on March 20, with the presence of National Secretary, Jitendra Singh.
Laskar, a seasoned politician and former Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Sonai, Assam, conveyed his decision to resign from the BJP through a letter addressed to the President of Assam Pradesh BJP Committee. In the letter, Laskar expressed gratitude to the BJP for the opportunities provided to him to serve the people in various capacities. However, he officially relinquished his positions as a State Executive member and his primary membership from the BJP.
The decision by Laskar to part ways with the BJP and align himself with the Congress marks a significant shift in the political landscape of Assam. Laskar’s move comes on the heels of his unsuccessful bid to retain his constituency while contesting on the BJP’s ticket. His decision to join the Congress is likely to inject new momentum into the party’s efforts to consolidate its position in the region.
The event scheduled for March 20 in Guwahati, where Laskar is expected to formally join the Congress, is anticipated to draw considerable attention from political observers and the public alike. Laskar’s extensive political experience and influence in the region could potentially bolster the Congress’s electoral prospects in Assam.
