Cachar Police opens fire at Prime Accused of attempted Gang-Rape

March 16 saw a distressing incident unfold in Shiv Tilla, Lakhipur, Cachar, as reported by authorities. While two individuals were out for a morning walk, they encountered a group of four assailants, resulting in the abduction of one of them.

Upon receiving the report, Cachar Police launched a comprehensive investigation, leading to the identification and apprehension of four suspects from various parts of the district.

Superintendent of Police, Cachar, Numal Mahatta, stated, “In her statement, the victim disclosed that they attempted to gang rape her, with the prime accused identified as Jamir Uddin Barbhuiya, a resident of Silchar.”

Among the four detained suspects was Jamir Uddin, corroborating the victim’s identification, as confirmed by Mahatta. Subsequent police interrogation revealed that Jamir Uddin utilized a weapon in the abduction, which occurred in Dolugram.

“Accompanied by law enforcement, the suspect led authorities to an abandoned area in Dolugram, where he attempted to assault officials, resulting in injuries to Santosh Pegu,” explained the Cachar SP. “In response, Cachar Police resorted to restrained firearm use, injuring the suspect’s leg before successfully securing him.”

The prime accused was promptly transported to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for urgent medical attention, while the injured constable is also receiving treatment.
