"The Statement on Maimal Community Was taken out of context" Congress' Karimganj Candidate Hafiz Rashid Ahmed Choudhary

As the day of the election is coming by, political parties are nominating their candidates for the various constituencies. Congress has officially nominated their candidate for the Karimganj seat in the upcoming Lok Sabha Election. Hafiz Rashid Ahmed Choudhary has been nominated to represent the party in this constituency. On April 4, amidst a large crowd, Choudhary, accompanied by enthusiastic supporters, made his way to the Karimganj DC Office to submit his nomination papers. The air resonated with the beats of drums and resounding slogans in support of the party and its candidate.

Following the submission of his nomination, Choudhary addressed the media, expressing his gratitude for the diverse support he has received from people of all backgrounds. He emphasized his commitment to maintaining unity in diversity, hoping it would continue to work in his favor.

Regarding a previous statement that caused misunderstanding within the Maimal community, Choudhary clarified that the issue has been resolved, and there are no lingering grievances from the community towards him.

When questioned about the absence of prominent political figures from his party, including State Congress President Bhupen Borah, Choudhary explained that adverse weather conditions prevented their attendance. He assured that Borah was prepared to attend but was unable to do so due to the weather.

Aminul Hoque Laskar, who was present alongside Choudhary, shared his reasons for leaving the BJP, citing a perceived shift in the party’s principles, particularly regarding its relationship with the AIUDF. Laskar claimed that the BJP and AIUDF, once distant, are now interdependent, which influenced his decision to depart from the BJP.

Echoing sentiments expressed by the Cachar District Congress President, Laskar commented on the lack of enthusiasm for BJP’s candidate, Kripanath Mallah, during his nomination process, despite the presence of the Chief Minister. He believes Mallah’s candidacy is weak, necessitating the Chief Minister’s intervention to rally support.

Laskar expressed confidence in Congress’s prospects in Barak Valley, emphasizing the overwhelming support demonstrated by the crowd during Choudhary’s nomination submission. He compared this to the turnout observed during BJP’s nominations, suggesting a disparity in enthusiasm between the two parties.

Despite Congress’s confidence, the true outcome of the election remains to be seen. With polling scheduled for April 26 and results set to be announced on June 4, the electoral landscape in Barak Valley will unfold during the second phase of the elections.
