Tragic Well Rescue in Fulertol: Three Dead After Attempting to clean Chicken Carcass

Late last night, a tragedy occurred in Tractor Tilla, Fulertol, in the Cachar district. A series of ill-fated rescue attempts led to the deaths of three individuals who descended into a well. A total of five people were trapped inside it. Two of them were able to get out of the well successfully with minimal injuries. The other three were later rescued by the SDRF and rushed to Silchar Medical College and Hospital as their prognosis was grim; all were found unresponsive.

In the incident that happened last night, three people unfortunately got stuck in the well and were later rescued by the SDRF team after an extended operation. The three drowned men were rushed to the Silchar Medical College’s Casualty Ward. “All three patients were brought dead to casualty and have been sent for a post-mortem examination,” said Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Principal cum Chief Superintendent of the hospital, to Barak Bulletin.

The incident began at approximately 10:30 PM last night when Tractor Tilla residents in Lakhipur’s Fulertol noticed a dead chicken floating in the well that supplies their drinking water. To remove the carcass, they initially attempted to pump it out but were unsuccessful. Determined to resolve the issue, Amit Sen, a local Tuk Tuk driver, volunteered to descend into the well. The situation quickly escalated when Amit failed to respond after entering the well. Concerned for his safety, Monojit Deb followed him but soon also became unresponsive. The growing alarm prompted Prosenjit Deb, Monojit’s brother, to enter the well in a desperate rescue attempt, only for him to fall silent as well.

The gravity of the situation reached its peak when their father, Satyalal Deb, decided to climb into the well in a final attempt to save his sons. He too struggled but was fortunately rescued by Rajkumar Rikiason. Both Satyalal and Rajkumar experienced severe dizziness due to oxygen deprivation but have since fully recovered.

The first to respond to the emergency call were the local police along with the Fire and Emergency Service team. Unequipped to rescue underwater, they had to wait for the SDRF team, who dived into the well with oxygen support. The team successfully retrieved all three trapped men. They were rushed to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital’s Casualty ward, where Amit Sen, Prosenjit Deb, and Monojit Deb were pronounced dead.
