Cyclone Remal Begins to Impact Barak Valley: Train Services Disrupted
The Barak Valley region has started to feel the effects of Cyclone Remal. Although the rain is not yet highly devastating, it has begun to disrupt electricity supply in many areas. Additionally, transportation has been affected as eight trains originating from Silchar have been cancelled.
The cancelled trains are as follows with their cancellation dates:

3. 05637 Silchar-Naharlagun Exp – 28.05.24

5. 15664 Silchar-Agartala I/C Exp – 27.05.24, 28.05.24
6. 15663 Agartala-Silchar I/C Exp – 27.05.24, 28.05.24
7. 05682 Silchar-Mahisasan Pass – 27.05.24, 28.05.24
8. 05683 Mahisasan-Silchar Pass – 27.05.24, 28.05.24
9. 05688 Silchar-Dullabcherra Pass – 27.05.24, 28.05.24
10. 05687 Dullabcherra-Silchar Pass – 28.05.24, 29.05.24
11. 05659 Silchar-Vangaichungpao Pass – 27.05.24
12. 05660 Vangaichungpao-Silchar Pass – 28.05.24, 29.05.24

Silchar Station Superintendent Debasis Paul Choudhary informed that the cancellations were necessary due to the approaching cyclone. In the Barak Valley region. Unfortunately, railway disruptions have become somewhat common, however, this time, the cancellations are a precautionary measure in light of Cyclone Remal.
Cyclone Remal, which originated from a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, is expected to intensify and pose significant threats. The Barak Valley is under a caution from May 24 to May 27, anticipating thunderstorms, gusty winds, and heavy rain.
Despite the cancellations, not all train services have been halted. Debasis Paul Choudhary noted that trains like Kanchanjangha are still operational, ensuring some connectivity remains for the region.
