Major Drug Bust In Silchar: CM lauds Police for Confiscating Heroin Worth Rs 5 Crores
In a significant operation based on a tip-off, Cachar police conducted a special raid at Shalchapra on NH 37 under the jurisdiction of Silchar Police Station in the early hours today. The operation led to the interception of an auto-rickshaw, bearing registration number AS 11 EC 4513, and the apprehension of a suspect with 974 grams of suspected heroin in 47 soap cases.
The arrested individual has been identified as Sirukuddin Laskar, 24 years old, a resident of Hawaithan, under Bagha Police Station in the Dholai area of Cachar district. Upon searching the vehicle, the police recovered 47 soap cases suspected to contain heroin, weighing approximately 974 grams, from his possession.
The seized contraband, along with the vehicle, was confiscated according to legal procedures. The estimated value of heroin in the black market is around ₹5 crores. The consignment is suspected to have been illegally transported from the neighbouring state in Aizawl, Mizoram.
Further legal action is being initiated against the accused, and investigations are ongoing to uncover more details about the drug trafficking network. Cachar SP Numal Mahatta said, “This is a part of our ongoing operation of ‘War on Drugs’. The operation was based on secret intel and we are on the lookout to find out the people involved in this racket. The drug that came from the neighbouring state was headed for another neighbouring state and Cachar was just being used as a route to pass the drug. We are trying to crack the inter-state racket that is involved in this”.
Chief Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma recognised the efforts of Cachar Police and posted details in Social Media, “Good job Assam Police,” stated CM as the officials remain vigilant in their pursuit of a “Drug Free Assam”
