Cachar Police Seize Suspected Heroin and Illegal Liquor in Separate Operations
In a significant crackdown on illegal substances, Cachar police have seized suspected heroin and illicit liquor in two separate operations. Superintendent of Police, Cachar, Numal Mahatta provided detailed accounts of the seizures.
In the first operation, acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted Md Mehbubur Rahman, 36, at Fulertol block under Lakhipur Police Station. Rahman, a resident of Shibpur No-2, Burunga Toli Bazar, in Nagaon district, was found in possession of nine soap cases containing a substance suspected to be heroin. The total weight of the suspected heroin was approximately 109 grams. The seizure was conducted in the presence of independent witnesses, adhering to Section 105 of the BNSS Act.
In another incident, during a routine check at Digorkhal Toll Gate, a vehicle bearing registration number AS 24 AC 2068, coming from Meghalaya, was intercepted. A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 25 cartons containing approximately 150 bottles of IMFL (Indian Made Foreign Liquor), labelled “For sale in Meghalaya only.” Two individuals, Bum Chorei and Lal Chorei, were apprehended in connection with the illegal liquor.
Further legal actions are being initiated against the accused in both cases, informed SP.
