In a significant operation in Bhuvan Pahar, Cachar, three alleged Hmar militants were neutralised following a fierce exchange of gunfire. The incident unfolded when Cachar Police apprehended the militants on Monday in the East Dholai area of Ganganagar.
The three suspects were traveling in an autorickshaw when police detained them, recovering an AK-47 from their possession. The recovery led to their immediate arrest.
Later that night (today early morning), Cachar Police escorted the detainees to Bhuvan Pahar to conduct a search operation. During the search, police sources revealed that another AK-47 and an additional assault rifle were discovered. Subsequently, according to the sources, an ambush from the nearby jungle ensued, prompting the police to return fire. All three alleged militants were killed in the confrontation.
The deceased were rushed to Silchar Medical College and Hospital, where their bodies are currently kept in the morgue for further investigation. The shootout also resulted in injuries to three police officials and damage to police vehicles including that of Additional SP.
Among the alleged militants, one was identified as a resident of Cachar, while the other two were from Manipur, having traveled to Assam via Mizoram.
