Hit-and-Run at Silchar Airport Road Claims Life of Scooty Rider, Unidentified Car Fled the Scene
A tragic hit-and-run incident claimed the life of a Scooty rider near the Dumorghat Bridge on the road to Silchar Airport. The accident occurred late at night on Wednesday in the Udharbond area of Cachar district. According to eyewitnesses, the scooty rider, who was travelling from the Kumbhirgram side towards Silchar, was hit by an unidentified vehicle. The collision was so severe that the rider died instantly on the spot.
The deceased has been identified as Ratan Bhowmik of Silchar National Highway Road. Eyewitnesses reported that a white Maruti Suzuki Swift, travelling at high speed towards Kumbhirgam collided head-on with Bhowmik’s scooty near the Dumorghat Bridge. He lost his control and was thrown off his two-wheeler. The driver of the Swift however fled with the car immediately after the crash.
Local residents, alarmed by the sound of the collision, rushed to the site and found the scooty rider deceased. They promptly informed the local Udharband police station. The police arrived quickly, recovered the body, and sent it to Silchar Medical College for a post-mortem examination.
A local present at the spot recounted, “This accident happened just after crossing the Dumorghat Bridge this evening. The person who died was on his scooty. A few people who saw the accident live said that a white Swift car (Maruti Suzuki Swift) heading from Silchar had hit the Scooty rider at high speed and then went towards Kumbhirgram. Due to the sound of the collision, we rushed to the spot and found the person dead on the spot. Later, Udharbond Police was called, who recovered the body and took it to Silchar Medical College and Hospital.”
The police are actively investigating the incident and searching for the driver of the unidentified vehicle involved in the hit-and-run.
