The distressing video, widely circulated on social media, shows the student gasping for breath and wailing in pain after the purported attack. In today’s intense heat, he took shelter at a local grocery shop after the alleged attack.

In the video, locals can be seen who came to his help and were trying to console him. The allegation is that the Principal of Patharkandi College, Monjurul Hoque assaulted the student.

Barak Bulletin reached out to Karimganj Superintendent of Police (SP), Partha Protim Das, for further details. SP Das confirmed that while an official complaint is still awaited, the police have already initiated an investigation based on the viral video.

“The video has come to our notice, and we are taking the necessary steps to investigate the matter thoroughly,” SP Das stated.

Even though there are not many details against corporal punishment in colleges, in 2000, the apex court of the country ruled that corporal punishment in schools violates the Constitution. The court cited the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which protects children from physical or mental violence, injury, and abuse.

As the investigation progresses, the local community and social media users are demanding swift justice and measures to ensure the safety and well-being of students at the college. The incident has sparked widespread outrage and calls for accountability.
