NRC Names Without Aadhaar? Cachar and Hailakandi Districts Taking Immediate Action
The Office of the District Commissioner of Hailakandi and Cachar have issued directives to their respective Circle Officers to identify and list individuals included in the National Register of Citizens (NRC) but who have not yet received their Aadhaar cards due to biometric issues.
In an effort to ensure inclusive Aadhaar generation, the DC Office of Hailakandi has addressed the Circle Officers of Hailakandi, Algapar, Lala, and Katlicherra Revenue Circles. Similarly, the DC Office of Cachar has sent letters to the Circle Officers of Sadar, Lakhipur, Udharbond, Katigorah, and Sonai. Both offices have stressed the urgency of this task, requiring reports to be submitted within a week.
The purpose of these directives is to facilitate the comprehensive generation of Aadhaar cards for all individuals whose names were published in the Final NRC but have not been able to obtain their Aadhaar due to biometric issues. This step is crucial to ensure that no eligible individual is left out of the Aadhaar system, which is essential for accessing various government services and benefits.
The letters from the District Commissioners’ Office, addressed to the Circle Officers, outline the need for a survey to be conducted within their jurisdictional areas. The Circle Officers are required to compile a detailed list of individuals in the prescribed format and submit both hard and soft copies of the report. This initiative is part of a broader effort mandated by the Chief Secretary of Assam to ensure comprehensive Aadhaar coverage.
The directive from the Hailakandi District Commissioner emphasises the importance of this task for the inclusion of all persons in their Circle jurisdiction areas. Meanwhile, the Cachar District Commissioner’s letter highlights the need for a detailed survey to ensure no one is left out of the Aadhaar generation process due to biometric issues. Both offices have labelled the task as “Most Urgent,” indicating the high priority of this initiative.
This move is significant as it addresses the gap between the NRC and Aadhaar enrolment, ensuring that all citizens have the necessary documentation to access various services. The urgency of the task underscores the importance of Aadhaar in the daily lives of individuals, especially those who were included in the NRC.
