Allegedly Kidnapped Bangladeshi Youth Jumps out of Moving Car, Will be Deported: Cachar SP
In a dramatic turn of events, a young man from Bangladesh was allegedly kidnapped and brought to the Borjatrapur area in the Borkhola constituency of Cachar. After regaining consciousness during the abduction, the victim, Rajib Sheikh claimed he leapt from a moving vehicle in an ordeal to save his life.
According to reports, Rajib Sheikh, a resident of Sujanagar Upazila in the Pabna district of Bangladesh, was abducted by a group of kidnappers and transported across the international border into India. On Wednesday night, in the Laskar Bazaar area of Borjatrapur, Rajib regained consciousness and, in a desperate bid for freedom, jumped from the vehicle in which he was being held captive. He sustained injuries upon hitting the ground but managed to survive.
Local residents promptly came to Rajib’s aid. Upon questioning, he identified himself and provided details about his father, the late Raju Sheikh, and his home in Bangladesh. Although Rajib could not recall the specifics of his abduction, he mentioned seeing three or four individuals in the vehicle after regaining consciousness.
The locals immediately handed Rajib over to the Bhangarpar police outpost. It has since been confirmed that he is currently under the custody of the Borkhola police.
In a state of shock, Rajib revealed that he had no consciousness when he crossed the Indo-Bangladesh border. At the time of his abduction, he was with a friend, and he believes he was kidnapped by two men. The mystery of how Rajib was transported over 350 kilometres and across an international border remains unsolved.
Cachar Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta, refuting the kidnapping claims, said, “We have registered a case for illegal trespassing by the citizen of Bangladesh into India and the same has been reported to the authorities on the other side of the border. We will act as per the order of the Government and arrange for his deportation to Bangladesh.”
