Horrific Road Accident in Karimganj: Couple Miraculously Rescued from Submerged Car
A horrific road accident occurred this afternoon in the Puamara area on the Agartala-Karimganj road, near Karimganj town. A four-wheeler vehicle lost control and fell into a waterbody. Fortunately, the two people inside the car were saved. The vehicle contained the husband Ramante Reang and his wife Roshnat Reang. The couple were travelling from the Panisagar area of Tripura to Silchar.
While coming from Tripura, the vehicle lost control in the Puamara area of Karimganj, plunging into a water body off the side of the road. Seeing the car submerging in water, locals jumped into the pond to help rescue the husband and wife. Meanwhile, the police and SDRF team arrived at the scene to recover the submerged vehicle. Miraculously, the couple inside the car was rescued by the locals, almost unscathed from this major accident.
“This car came at high speed and when it applied the brake, it went flying off the road, almost 30 meters and fell into this waterbody,” recounted a local witness. “The water was too deep, and the car immediately started to submerge. When we heard the sound, we rushed for help. The locals of our area jumped into the waterbody and were able to rescue them” further added the local. The car then submerged entirely under the water.
The swift response of the locals was instrumental in averting a potential tragedy. The police and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team arrived shortly after to recover the submerged vehicle and commence an investigation into the accident.
Despite the severity of the crash, both Ramante and Roshnat Reang emerged unharmed from the incident. The couple’s escape from the submerged vehicle is being hailed as nothing short of miraculous.
At the time of filing this report, the SDRF team including divers are trying to recover the submerged vehicle but are unable to locate it.
In the past week, Karimganj district has witnessed nearly one accident daily, yet drivers continue to overspeed on the state and national highways. The Berajal area of Nilambazar has been declared cursed by people of all religions, but until drivers curb their excessive speeding, accidents will remain inevitable.
