Young Couple Jumps Off Old Silchar Sadarghat Bridge; Locals Immersing Manasha Idol Rescue Them
In a dramatic turn of events, a young couple survived a suicide attempt late last night after jumping off the Old Silchar Sadarghat Bridge into the Barak River. The incident, which occurred following a heated argument between the two, was witnessed by several commuters who were unable to intervene in time.
The couple, reportedly in a romantic relationship, decided to take the drastic step after an intense quarrel on the bridge. The boy, hailing from Sonai, and the girl, from Dudpatil, both in the Cachar district, leapt into the river together, sparking a search operation by authorities.
Despite efforts to locate them, the rescue operation was hampered by darkness and heavy rain, making it impossible to continue the search during the night. However, a stroke of luck came when locals from Karatigram, who were immersing an idol after the Manasha Puja, noticed the two struggling in the water a few kilometres downstream near the Karatigram area of Rongpur.
Braving the currents, the locals managed to rescue the couple and promptly informed the authorities. The police arrived shortly after and rushed the pair to a nearby hospital, where they are currently receiving medical treatment. The reason behind the suicide attempt is believed to be related to issues within their relationship, though further details are yet to be confirmed.
