Lakhipur: Two Bodies Found Floating in Chiri River, Identified as Missing Couple
Early this morning, two bodies were found floating in the Chiri River at Kangali Basti under the Sribargaon Panchayat in the Lakhipur. Local residents discovered the bodies and immediately informed the police.
Upon receiving the information, a team from Lakhipur Police rushed to the scene and also alerted the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) for assistance. Initial investigations revealed that the deceased were identified as Anjana Kal and her husband, Jaggu Kal, labourers from the Lediacherra Tea Estate under Joypur Police Station.
According to the police, the couple had gone missing on Saturday after they went to bathe in the Chiri River near Kamranga village. While bathing, Anjana Kal reportedly slipped and was swept away by the river’s strong currents. Her husband, in an attempt to save her, also drowned.
The bodies were spotted floating in the river today, two days after the incident. Family members of the deceased were informed, and they identified the bodies as those of Anjana and Jaggu Kal.
With the help of the SDRF, the bodies were recovered and sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination. The tragic incident has caused significant distress in the local community.
