Dholai Police Arrests Husband Who Severed Off Wife’s Hands Over Infidelity Suspicion

Rafique Uddin, who had chopped off his wife’s hands suspecting infidelity was arrested last night by Dholai Police. The attack occurred late Thursday night when Ruby Begum, married to Rafique for six years, was brutally assaulted by her husband. In the horrifying act, both of Ruby’s hands were chopped off, and she was severely beaten, leaving her potentially blind in one eye.

Neighbours, alarmed by Ruby’s cries for help, rushed to the scene and found her in a critical condition. She was immediately taken to Silchar Medical College and Hospital. Due to the severity of her injuries, doctors advised her family to transfer her to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital for urgent medical intervention. Ruby was moved to Guwahati that very night in an attempt to save her severed arms.

Following the incident, Rafique fled from his home in Jamalpur. The police launched an intensive investigation and successfully apprehended Rafique from the Loknathpur area of Dolai late Friday night.

Speaking to a reporter at the Dholai Police Station after his arrest, Rafique showed no remorse and calmly explained his actions. “She stays with other men of our village when I am not at home. That is why I beat her,” he stated.

He further elaborated his accusations, citing past grievances: “One time, she left home and went to live with her maternal uncle. When I went there to bring her back, they ganged up against me and beat me. I called my father-in-law to tell him about this. But he didn’t say a word; instead, he asked her maternal uncle’s family to throw me out of their home. This is not an isolated event. There have been several instances where she did this, and it’s not just me; our son also saw her with other men.”

The Dholai Police have launched a thorough investigation into the incident, while Ruby remains in critical condition, battling for her life in Guwahati Medical College and Hospital.
