CM to take stock of flood situation on Saturday; DC Adil Khan says "condition improved considerably"

The flood situation in Hailakandi district has improved considerably in the past four days. Water has receded with the three major rivers viz., Katakhal, Dholeswari and Barak flowing below the danger level but of the 331 villages, 105 villages are now under water.

The number of relief camps has also come down from 145 to 3,1 housing only 33,128 inmates. All the relief camps under Lala and Katlicherra revenue circles have been closed down.

47 medical teams have been presently deployed and they are visiting the affected areas and relief camps under Algapur and Hailakandi revenue circles. A 10-member specialist team from Silchar Medical College and Hospital will soon arrive in Hailakandi district.

Deputy Commissioner Adil Khan said that the officials and employees engaged in flood related works have been discharging their duties with utmost sincerity and maintaining transparency in distribution of gratuity relief items to the flood affected people. “There is no complaint from any part of the district regarding distribution of foodstuff,” said Khan.

Khan disclosed that the administration has so far distributed 4784.91 quintals rice, 447 quintals dal, 271.29 quintals salt, 2977.89 kgs chira, 1,210 kgs jaggery, 31,785 biscuit packets, 8,759 milk packets for the flood hit people and 455 quintals wheat bran for the affected livestock.

Chief Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal will visit Hailakandi on Saturday to take stock of the flood situation in the district. The Chief Minister will hold a review meeting with the officials of the district administration and heads of concerned departments at Deputy Commissioner’s conference hall here.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Adil Khan held a meeting on Thursday with senior officials in connection with the Chief Minister’s upcoming visit and directed the heads of concerned departments to submit detailed reports at the earliest. A security review meeting was held on Friday in view of the visit of Chief Minister. Senior civil and police administration officials were present.
