Banskandi: Young Painter's Life Cut Short in Bike Accident, Father Alleges Hit-and-Run

24-year-old Kiran Hussain Laskar had gone to drop off his nephew at school on Saturday morning in Banskandi in the Cachar district. Just like any other day, he had taken his bike. While on his way back home in Kashipur, he met with a tragic accident. In an area called Lombabasti in Banskandi, an auto allegedly hit him from the back and he lost the balance on his bike. The bike went off the road and Laskar hit a concrete wall. The impact of the accident had left him bleeding, but no one came forward for help.

Several hours passed before bystanders discovered him and, rather than rushing him to the nearest hospital, they took him to the Banskandi Police Outpost. From the outpost, he was taken to the Alipur Hospital nearby, but the doctors there refused to admit him and sent him to Silchar Medical College. By then it was evening and the trauma centre doctors admitted him to the Intensive Care Unit as his condition was severe. But that night, the youth collapsed in the ICU, while the doctors said, that had he come here earlier, he would be alive.

Kiran Hussain Laskar was a painter by profession, who had just married 2-months back. This makes his untimely death even more devastating. Dropping off his nephew at school was his routine job and just like any other day, he did the same on Sunday but never returned home. His father alleges that it was a hit-and-run case. On Sunday, he said, “The one who had hit him never turned back and fled from the scene. It was an auto-rickshaw we have heard. The auto driver saw the accident but didn’t stop to save his life. Three to four hours later some people learned about the accident and took him to the outpost”.

“The doctors at the medical college said, he was taken to the hospital late and for that reason, he couldn’t make it”, further lamented the father. The bereaved father has called for the auto driver responsible for this accident to be held accountable for this hit-and-run tragedy.
