16-Year-Old Boy Missing in Barak While Bathing with Friends, SDRF Launches Operation at Annapurnaghat

Sagar Basfore and 5 of his friends came to the Annapurna Ghat to seek relief from the scorching heat, after spending the entire day at the market with his father. But fate had a different plan and a tragic incident unfolded at Annapurnaghat in Silchar city when the 16-year-old boy, Sagar Basfore, went missing in the Barak River while bathing with his friends. The incident occurred as the group of friends sought relief from the afternoon heat by cooling off in the river. Sagar, a resident of Vivekananda Road, disappeared in the water, triggering an immediate search operation by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).

Sagar and his friends had gone to the river in the late afternoon. According to witnesses, while most of the group stayed near the shallow part of the river, Sagar ventured slightly deeper on his own. One of his friends reportedly saw him wave for help as the strong currents began to carry him away, but they were unable to reach him in time.

Family members of the missing boy were in shock. A close relative shared their distress, saying, “He came here with his friends to bathe. He went with them in a tuk-tuk (e-rickshaw), we didn’t know about this. One of our nieces who stays here called us to say that he went missing in the river.”

The relative further added, “We got to know that all his friends were bathing in the shallow side, but he went to a little depth all by himself. They saw him wave for help, but by the time they could reach him, he was swept away by the flow of the river.”

Upon receiving news of the incident, an SDRF team arrived promptly at the scene and launched a search operation. However, as of the latest reports, there has been no success in locating the missing teenager.

The search for Sagar continues, with the rescue team hoping for a breakthrough.
