Cachar Police Implements Strict Traffic Regulations for Smooth Durga Puja Celebrations from October 9-13, 2024

With the festive season approaching, Cachar Police have announced special traffic regulations to ensure smooth vehicular movement during Durga Puja, effective from October 9 to October 13, 2024. These restrictions are aimed at managing the influx of devotees and visitors during the celebrations.

1. Heavy and Medium Trucks
From October 9 to 13, 2024, all heavy and medium trucks will be prohibited from entering the city from 9 AM onwards, until further notice.

2. Passenger Vehicles Restrictions
All heavy, medium, and small passenger buses, light commercial vehicles, and vehicles of the Army, paramilitary forces, BRTF, and CRPF will not be allowed in the municipal area after 9 AM.

3. State and Private Buses
Passenger buses from Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Mizoram, and private super buses will operate from Ramnagar, Nagatila, Rongpur, and Raigarh after 9 AM.

Commercial vehicles on Karimganj and Hailakandi routes will operate from Ramnagar. Vehicles on the Lakhipur, Udharbond, Manipur, Sonai, Mizoram, and Masimpur routes will operate from designated points like Ramkrishna Petrol Pump, Jangiana Point, Tarapur, and Kathal Point.

4. Rickshaw and Auto Restrictions
Rickshaws and autos within the municipal area will be stationed at designated stands outside the city limits.

5. Alternate Routes for Vehicles
Vehicles entering from Malugram or Trunk Road will pass through Sadargath Point, Forest Office, Janiganj, Dewanji Bazar, and Premtola, and reach Rangirkhari.
Light vehicles coming from Rangirkhari will pass through Premtola, Shillongpatty, DIG Office Point, Hotel Borail View, and continue via Tennis-Point, PWD Road, or India Club Road.

6. One-Way Traffic on Link Road
Link Road No. 1 will become a one-way street from 2 PM on October 9 onwards. Vehicles can enter from Sonai Road and exit via Hailakandi Road.

7. No Entry Zones
Public School Road and the area near Gopinath Cinema Hall will be marked as ‘No Entry’ during the festive period.

8. Route Restrictions from Key Points
No vehicles will be allowed to travel from Janiganj towards Tulapatty or Ukilpatty.
No vehicles will be allowed from Hospital Road towards Chengkuri Road.

9. Lochan Bairagi Road Closure
Lochan Bairagi Road will be a ‘No Entry Zone’ from 2 PM onwards on October 9 until further notice.

10. Karimganj and Hailakandi Routes
Light vehicles from Karimganj and Hailakandi entering Silchar will pass through National Highway Point and Ranggirkhari Point.

11. Restrictions on Vehicles with Black Tinted Windows
Black-tinted windows on any type of vehicle will be strictly prohibited.

12. Rickshaw and Handcart Ban (October 10-12, 2024)
From 2 PM onwards on Saptami, Ashtami, and Navami (October 10-12), no rickshaws or handcarts will be allowed on these roads:
Rangirkhari to Premtola, Dewanji Bazar, Tulapatty, Annapurna Point.
Premtola to Ullaskar Dutta Sarani, Shillongpatty, DIG Office Point.
Dewanji Bazar to Sadar Thana Point, Janiganj-Tulapatty Point, Treasury Office Point.
India Club Point to Tarapur, E&D Colony Point.
No rickshaws will be allowed to enter Silchar from Rongpur after 10 AM.

13. Immersion Day Restrictions (October 13, 2024)
From 12 PM onwards, all vehicle movement within the municipal area will be halted for idol immersion.
Vehicles carrying idols from Rangirkhari will take the Premtola, Nazirpatty, Central Road, Dak Bungalow Point route to the immersion ghat.
Idol-carrying vehicles from Tarapur will follow the DIG Bungalow Point, Annapurna Point, Shillongpatty, and the Premtola route.

14. DJ Restrictions on Immersion Day
Vehicles carrying idols must stop playing DJ music at specified points:
Khudiram Point for vehicles from Central Road.
Capital Point for vehicles from Tarapur via Trunk Road.
Under the old bridge at Sadargath for vehicles from Rangpur.

Exemptions:
The above restrictions will not apply to Fire Brigade, Medical, Water Supply vehicles, or vehicles carrying duty magistrates or police officers.
The Cachar Police have launched several helpline numbers and emergency hotlines to report any crimes or anti-social activities to maintain peace and order.
