Bangladesh Flag Painted on Roads in Sribhumi as Retaliation; "India is the father of Bangladesh" remarks Protestor
In Sribhumi, locals painted Bangladesh’s national flag on roads and walked over it in protest, following reports of the Indian flag being insulted in Bangladesh. The symbolic act has sparked intense reactions, with protesters calling it a response to repeated provocations from the neighbouring country.
Reports of the Indian national flag being insulted in Bangladesh have triggered strong reactions in India. Recently, images surfaced on social media showing the Indian flag painted on roads in Bangladesh, where people were seen walking over it. This act has deeply hurt the sentiments of many Indians, leading to widespread anger and calls for retaliation.
In response, several people in Sribhumi, have painted Bangladesh’s national flag on public roads and encouraged others to walk over it. This action, they say, is a way to give Bangladesh a taste of its own medicine. A representative stated that they have been observing how religious minorities, particularly Hindus, are being mistreated in Bangladesh. The recent insult to the Indian flag, they said, is a further escalation that cannot be ignored.
“Our culture teaches us to respect all nations and faiths,” the representative emphasised. However, he added that the repeated provocations from Bangladesh have left them with no choice but to retaliate in the same way. “Since they have crossed all limits, we too must treat them in their own way,” he explained, justifying the act of walking over the Bangladesh flag.
The representative also invited residents of Sribhumi to witness and participate in this protest. He urged people to step on the painted flags, making it clear that this was a symbolic response to the perceived insult in Bangladesh.
He further pointed out India’s historical role in Bangladesh’s independence, calling it the “child of India.” He stressed that Bangladesh should remember how its liberation was achieved with India’s help. “A father has the right to discipline their child,” he remarked.
Visuals from Sribhumi show cars driving over a painted Bangladesh flag on the road, while some vehicles avoid it. Another flag painted on a footpath shows people stepping over it as they pass by.
