Massive fire at Silchar’s Sadarghat: Wedding hall warehouse gutted

A devastating fire broke out at Sadarghat in Silchar on Thursday morning, engulfing the warehouse of a prominent wedding hall. The blaze intensified after two cooking gas cylinders exploded. Eight fire engines battled for an hour to bring the fire under control. However, the warehouse was completely reduced to ashes, causing damage worth several lakhs of rupees.

The incident occurred on January 16 morning at the warehouse of Milan Mandir, a luxury wedding hall in Sadarghat. The flames rapidly spread throughout the warehouse, and two gas cylinder explosions worsened the situation. Firefighters from Silchar, Udharbond, and Dholai managed to control the fire after an hour of effort. Preliminary suspicion points to a short circuit as the cause of the fire.

Others also point towards waste being burnt on the bank of the Barak which falls at the back side of the wedding hall. People from nearby homes have come to the road, relocating LPG cylinders to safer spaces.

A local mentioned that the fire started behind the Manoranjan Complex on the left bank of the Barak River. Due to multiple wooden structures, the fire spread quickly and easily. The warehouse belonged to Chakkeshwari tent house which also owns the Milan Mandir wedding hall.
