Municipal poll sparks family feud: Husband refutes wife’s abuse claims, alleges affair

The dates for the upcoming municipal corporation elections have not yet been announced. However, the Biswas family in Angarjur, Rongpur, has been shaken by election-related tensions. Asmita Biswas filed a case against her husband, Rajesh Biswas, at Rongpur police station on February 9, alleging domestic abuse after expressing her intention to contest the municipal elections. Seeking justice, she has accused her husband of mistreatment. However, on Wednesady, Rajesh Biswas alleged that his wife was doing all this because of an extra-marital affair with another local and it was under his influence that she had filed this case.

On Wednesday (February 12), Rajesh Biswas talked to the media in Angarjur, refuting his wife’s allegations. He claimed that Asmita had fallen into the trap of a local youth named Sourab Deb and had been conspiring against him and his family. According to Rajesh, after returning from Guwahati, Asmita’s responsibilities toward the family significantly declined. The in-laws reportedly noticed her spending long hours on video calls and exchanging messages late into the night. Rajesh Biswas refutes allegations made by his wife Asmita Biswas. He has counter-accused his wife of framing him under the influence of a local youth.

Asmita is the mother of two children, and the family also includes her elderly mother-in-law. Rajesh alleged that instead of focusing on her family, she had created unrest under the influence of Sourab Deb. When confronted, Asmita not only made false accusations against her husband but also engaged in further conspiracies, as per statements from local women’s groups and Rajesh himself. He further claimed that despite staying at her in-laws’ house, Asmita continued to create a disturbing atmosphere.

Rajesh raised concerns over potential untoward incidents and questioned who would take responsibility for them. Seeking justice, he has brought the matter to the attention of local authorities. Additionally, Rajesh expressed suspicion about an alleged secret relationship between Asmita and Sourab Deb.

Rajesh Biswas said, “Her behaviour has suddenly changed after coming from Guwahati. I didn’t refute her contesting elections, I had only sent her to Guwahati as she wanted to contest. But after coming from there she has been very secretive. She is always on her phone and doesn’t even let me see her phone. Earlier Sourab Deb would call from his phone and they would talk on video call night after night, I have submitted their call data at the police station too. Now he calls from his wife’s phone”. While Rajesh Biswas was speaking to the media, the women’s group has been feeding him pointers to be mentioned.

While Asmita Biswas in her FIR mentioned domestic violence and torture naming her husband and in-laws. She mentioned the alleged physical and mental trauma endured and that she was locked inside a room.

Rajesh made it clear that he would fully support his wife if she contests the municipal elections independently. However, he firmly opposed her contesting while maintaining ties with Sourab, which, he believes, is causing turmoil within the family. Declaring himself helpless, Rajesh has urged the police to intervene and ensure justice in the matter.
