Ramakrishna Mission Silchar’s Nagar Parikrama: A Spectacle of Devotion, Diversity, and Social Harmony
Silchar witnessed an extraordinary spectacle of faith and unity today as thousands of devotees took part in the Nagar Parikrama, a spiritual procession marking the centenary celebrations of Ramakrishna Mission Sevashrama. The streets overflowed with people from all walks of life—men, women, and children of all ages—chanting hymns, singing devotional songs, and marching in unison. The energy was electric, and the sight was nothing short of mesmerising.
What made this event truly remarkable was the participation of people from different faiths, political backgrounds, and communities, walking together in harmony. From spiritual seekers to local leaders, everyone came together to celebrate 100 years of service and devotion. Even those who couldn’t join the walk gathered along the roads, capturing the grand moment on their phones. Social media was flooded with posts, with politicians, dignitaries, and common people alike sharing their experiences. Such was the massive turnout that it was nearly impossible to determine the starting point from the middle of the endless procession.
Today’s event also saw the presence of, Srimat Swami Gautamanandaji Maharaj, President of Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math, and Swami Girishanandaji Maharaj, Vice-President of Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math, adding spiritual significance to the grand event. Their presence was deeply cherished by devotees and participants, further elevating the sanctity of the occasion.
The Nagar Parikrama was part of the week-long centenary celebrations, which began on 15 March with the inauguration of Maa Sarada Charitable Dispensary and Swami Yogananda Sabha Griha. The coming days will see more spiritual discourses, cultural programmes, and most importantly, the grand consecration of the newly built Universal Temple of Sri Ramakrishna on 18 March, a moment eagerly awaited by devotees.
Adding to the significance of the celebrations, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma is going to attend the grand consecration ceremony of the newly built Universal Temple of Sri Ramakrishna on 18 March as the Chief Guest. His presence will mark a momentous occasion in the centenary celebrations of Ramakrishna Mission Silchar, further highlighting the importance of this historic event.
