
War on Drugs: Cachar Police Arrest 3, Recover Narcotics Worth Over Rs. 4 Crore
Cachar Police has intensified its efforts to make the district drug-free. In three different operations, the police have seized illegal drugs worth around Rs. 4 crore 1 lakh and arrested multiple accused involved in drug peddling.
In the first case, acting on a reliable tip-off, Cachar Police intercepted an autorickshaw (registration number AS11 DC 0297) near Sildubi on the Silchar-Mizoram road on 23 April. During the search, they recovered 10,000 Yaba tablets. One person, Shahid Ahmed Laskar (24) from Bansgaon Dholai, was arrested on the spot.
In another operation, based on input received, the police raided the house of Joydeep Das (30), son of late Jayanta Das from Daspara near Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH). Joydeep is also suspected of being involved in mobile phone theft. Police said that stolen phones were being exchanged for heroin among drug users. During the raid, police seized 520 empty vials and 39 vials containing suspected heroin, weighing approximately 2 grams in total.
In a third case dated 21 April, police caught another drug peddler near the Salganga river RCC bridge at 16 No. Basti. The accused, Salim Uddin, son of late Mujahid Ali from Chandinagar Part-II under Katigorah Police Station, was found with 10,000 Yaba tablets.
Cachar Police have confirmed that lawful procedures for seizure were followed, and further investigations are ongoing. Authorities have assured that their fight against drug trafficking will continue with full force.
