Four Teachers Face Suspension in Hailakandi for Losing Ballot Papers During Panchayat Poll Duty
In a major administrative action on the eve of polling, four teachers posted as election officials have been placed under immediate suspension in Hailakandi district for gross negligence during the Panchayat Election duty 2025.
According to an official order issued by the Office of the District Commissioner, Hailakandi, the suspended individuals include Chiranjeeb Singha (Assistant Teacher, Govt. VMHS School), Nasir Uddin Laskar (Assistant Teacher under BEEO, Hailakandi), Sorif Uddin Mazharbhuiya (Assistant Teacher under BEEO, Katlicherra), and Md. Ahmed Ali Laskar (AT under BEEO, Hailakandi). All four have been accused of losing a bag containing ballot papers and other crucial election materials while proceeding to Polling Station No. 39 under 2-Umednagar Rajjeswarpur ZPC.
The District Administration has taken serious note of the incident, terming it a “clear failure to uphold the standards of responsibility, diligence, and care required of officials” assigned to such sensitive electoral duties. The lapse reportedly led to disruption in polling operations at the affected station and raised concerns over the sanctity and transparency of the electoral process.
“The gravity of the incident demanded immediate suspension pending departmental proceedings. A comprehensive inquiry is underway to fix accountability and recommend further action as necessary,” the order stated, adding that the disciplinary action is in accordance with the applicable service rules.
The suspended officials were entrusted with safeguarding materials central to the conduct of free and fair elections. Their failure to do so has invited strong administrative rebuke and placed the focus firmly back on the rigorous standards expected of personnel on poll duty.
The directive has been issued with the approval of the District Commissioner, Hailakandi, and has been copied to the state’s education and police authorities, along with the principals and concerned block education officers for necessary follow-up.
