Youth From Kashipur Dies By Drowning In Mangalore
A 24-year-old youth from Kashipur Part II in Cachar district tragically lost his life after drowning in the sea while working in Mangalore, Karnataka. The deceased has been identified as Suhel Ahmed Majumdar, son of Kabul Hussen Majumdar.
According to reports, Suhel had been working in Mangalore for a long time. On Saturday evening (May 10), after finishing his work for the day, he went swimming in the sea along with a few of his colleagues. During the swim, Suhel reportedly drifted away from the group and was caught in a strong wave. His friends raised an alarm after they failed to find him.
Local police were informed, and a search operation was launched. After nearly two hours, a body was recovered from the sea, which his companions later identified as Suhel’s. The body was sent for post-mortem examination.
“A year back, he went to Mangaluru to earn a living,” a family relative told reporters. “Every evening after work, he and his friends would go for a swim in the sea. That day too, they went as usual. But Suhel submerged and could not be found despite their efforts. The waves were too strong. The police later recovered his body.”
Suhel’s mortal remains were flown back from Karnataka to Silchar on Monday (May 12). Grief engulfed the family as his body reached their residence in Kashipur.
A local contractor associated with the group confirmed that the police have launched an investigation into the incident.
