APSC Scam: Assistant Commissioner of Karimganj Susovan Das along with 18 others arrested by Assam Police

The “Cash for Job” scam in Assam’s public service circuit is making headlines again. News of corruption in the Assam Public Service Commission was revealed in the winters of 2016 with the arrest of the APSC chairman Rakesh Paul.

Yesterday, Dibrugarh Police summoned 19 officers, which includes, 13 ACS, 3 APS, 1 District Transport Officer, one Tax inspector and one Tax inspector. Today all the accused were asked to sit for a hand-writing test following which all 19 were arrested. The women are  kept in panbazar outpost, the rest are at kahilipara outpost and will be produced in the court tomorrow.

Block Development Officer, Susovan  Das, is a  resident of Longai Road Karimganj and is currently  posted as Assistant Commissioner in Karimganj administration. Before joining public servicr he was a professor at Frontier College.
APS Pallabi Sharma is daughter of BJP member of  parliament from Tezpur constituency, RP Sharma. Sharma was quoted by Economic Times saying, “This is conspiracy against me ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls to malign my image. However I will expose them soon.”

Corruption of APSC was an election issue in the 2016 assembly and BJP had promised to clean up the corrupt practices of commission.

In two years the government has managed to put behind bars Chairman of APSC, Rakesh Kumar Paul and members of the Commission, including Samedur Rahman and Basanta Kumar Doley. After today’s 19 arrests the total rises to 55 in what Sarbananda Sonowal government terms as one of the biggest success in state’s fight against corruption.
In the APSC scam several state civil service officers, police services officers besides one officer belonging to allied services are arrested.
