NRC Final draft: Cachar 87% Karimganj 92% Hailakandi 93% high approvals in Barak Valley

After passing months of anxious moments and sleepless nights, the people of Assam, today, saw the final draft of the National Register of Citizens (NRC). The first draft was published on December 30, 2017. And the ones who missed out on the first list had their eyes and hopes set on the final one. 10 AM today, the draft was published and one could access it through the internet or visiting the NRC Seva Kendra or through SMS.
Barak Valley witnessed a high approval. It is worth mentioning here that the mood in the Valley was tensed throughout the entire proceedings because of the high rejection in the first draft. Many even touted NRC as an anti-Bengali move. In total, 2,89,83,677 names have made a place while 40,07,708 names are missing from the final draft. In Cachar district out of 18,19,702 applicants, 15,90,940 made it to the final list while 2,28,762 missed out. The district secured 87.42% approval. Karimganj district secured 91.53% approval as out of 13,24,096 applicants, 12,11,987 made it to the final list leaving 1,12,109 out of the list. Hailakandi district too witnessed high approval with 93.39% making it to the final list. Out of 7,07,857 applicants from the district, 6,68,000 made it to the final draft of NRC.
The NRC proceedings began on September 5, 2013. From September 1, 2015, the verification process started. Then on December 31, 2017, the first draft of NRC got published. After that started the family tree verification process. The ones who were rejected in the first list were called in person in a designated Seva Kendra through a notice. Panchayat documents were also accepted during that period. After following a rigorous process under the supervision of Supreme Court of India and coordination of state coordinator IAS Pratik Hajela, the final draft got published today.
