Police investigation confirms drug overdose as 16-year-old Debraj's cause of death

News of Radhamadhav road resident 16-year-old Class IX student Debraj’s death shocked the entire Barak Valley yesterday.

Today, comes the horrific revelation. After Police investigation, it is confirmed that drug overdose is the cause of the teenager’s death. The Police summoned Sunil Sinha (name changed), a drug addict and a member of the Debraj’s clan for interrogation. And after initial investigation, the team could gather enough evidence and information to assure drug overdose as the cause of death. Police also got to know that Debraj and others consumed the drugs by injecting syringes.

“We apprehended Sunil Sinha (name changed) last night and started interrogating him. He confessed that on Sunday night Sunil(name changed), Debraj and few other doped in that building. After the dose, Debraj fainted and his condition started deteriorating. Out of fear,Sunil(name changed) and others fled from the building leaving Debraj lying alone. This is what Sunil(name changed) told us and on the basis of that we are considering it as a case of drug overdose,” says SP Rakesh Roushan.
The Police Superintendent mentioned that the postmortem report is due today evening or tomorrow morning and only then they will get to know about the nature and quantity of the drug.
Sunday morning, Debraj asked his father Gopal Roy for Rs 300 as he wanted to get his phone repaired. In the evening, Gopal Roy agreed to give Debraj the 300, Debraj also asked for Rs 100 more as he wanted to eat and play games. He left his resident in Radhamadhav Road in the evening and on his way out he informed his parents that he will get late at night.
Since then he did not return home, his parents called his phone repeatedly but got no response. Next morning, the phone was switched off. Parents and other family members started looking for Debraj everywhere and filed a missing report in the local Police station.
Tuesday morning, Gopal Roy got a call about their son and he along with other family members rushed to Panchayat road. To add to their despair, they found out that their son is no more. The maid, while cleaning the boys hostel sensed a foul smell coming out of the building. She informed the locals, who then got the police on the spot. The team then found the decomposed boy of Debraj in the building.
Locals immediately indicated towards a possibility of drug overdose as they believe this area in Panchayat road had become the assembly hall of dopers from around the city. Debraj’s family though have been denying the drug overdose theory entirely and instead allege that their son was trapped and eventually murdered.
A 16-year-old dying due to drug overdose is an alarming sign for all other parents having teenagers at home.
