Narrow escape: Kanchenjunga express derailed near Phiding; no passenger hurt

Train number 13173 Sealdah to Agartala is stuck in the section between Phiding and Daotuhaja Railway stations in the Lumding-Badarpur route. As per a senior official in Northeast Frontier Railways, one wheel of the rear engine has railed off the track. The official said it is not a major derailment and the railway officials are expecting the route to be cleared in two-three hours.
“Since just one wheel has railed off the track we must not have a long delay. The team has already reached the spot and are working for a quick recovery of the track,” the official added. He also confirmed that no passengers got hurt in the derailment and there is no information of any damage either.
While just one wheel is a big relief for the passengers in traveling in the train and their family members, this derailment is a massive worry in general for the people living in the Northeastern region. Last Monday, in the same section, 18 coaches of a goods train carrying fertilizers railed off the track causing a massive three-day abruption of Railway services, “Yes today too the derailment took place in the same section and our engineers are looking into the causes. There is no report available yet and it would be wise not to speculate at this stage,” the official added.
