Human rights violation in NRC and D-Voters; Opinion Movers to host a session on December 10 in Silchar
Opinion Movers are all set to organise a programme on December 10 to observe Human Rights Day.
The programme will revolve around the several allegations of human rights violations occuring in the NRC updation process as well as in the D-Voters issue.
The programme will be held from 6 pm onwards at Silchar Sangeet Vidyalaya in Park Road, Silchar. Among those expected to be present in the programme are
Taimur Raja Choudhury, Halim Ahmed Choudhury, Kamal Chakraborty, Snigdha Nath and Dipankar Ghosh. Joydip Biswas will be anchoring the event.
Dipankar Sengupta, Aurobindo Nath, Krishnendu Roy and Kamal Chakraborty, who are the members of Opinion Leaders are expected to speak in the meeting. They also urged local people to be present in the meeting and join hands against cases of human rights violation.
In an interaction with Barak Bulletin,
Dipak Sengupta said that they haven’t fixed any specific subject of discussion but said that they will be pitching issues like harrassment of genuine citizens by labelling them as D-Voters and complicated NRC procedures among others. He also condemned BJP chief Amit Shah’s ‘termite’ reference which he used to describe those who weren’t listed in the final NRC draft.
He further referred to Opinion Movers as a ‘virtual media group’ which also includes people from different parts of the country. “Professors from Delhi University, people residing in West Bengal, Bihar and Tripura are also part of this group. We also have a large membership of teachers from various institutions from all over Barak Valley and Assam University as well”, he said.
He said that Opinion Movers will be hosting more such sessions on social issues in the future as well.
