95-year-old stands in queue to cast vote and be a part of democracy
While the farmers in the country have got very little to boast about, 95-year-old Girindra Das still has some hope left. The rural areas of Assam has seen a large turnout in the ongoing Panchayat elections.
Das in his late 90s, patiently waited in the queue for his turn. He then went into the polling booth and stamped on his preferable Member, AP, GP and ZPC candidates. He is a resident of Doodhpatil area and has earned a living toiling hard in the paddy fields. His brother Kamakhya Das is a teacher by profession. One of his son Alok passed away and now he lives with Rupak, Deepak and Tilak.
The 2nd phase panchayat elections began with 10 districts with a total of 9428 polling stations. While there are 10,909 posts, 35,056 candidates have applied. For the 169 ZPC posts, 716 candidates have applied, for 895 AP posts, 3,205 candidates, 895 GP President posts, there are 3,512 candidates and for 8950 GP Member posts, 27,623 candidates are there.
Out of the total 65,21,518 voters, 33,77,014 are males and 30,44,504 are females.
