While growing up, if you got mesmerised by Jack and Rose’s love story and the sinking Titanic, this Puja you need to visit Udharbond Kalibari Road’s Durga Puja.
It’s going to be undoubtedly the biggest attraction in Barak Valley, if not the whole of Assam. A giant Titanic will welcome you and once you move inside, you will find yourself under water. Yes, that’s the theme of Kalibari Road Sarbajanin Durga Puja committee- the giant ship and life under water.
About 49 aquariums have been installed inside the Titanic where around 2500 live fishes will swim around. There will be other live water bodies which will make you feel like you have dived 100 feet under the ocean, “The fishes and other water bodies are coming from West Bengal and we are expecting them by tomorrow,” says Shankar Roy, a veteran member of the Puja Committee. Apart from the aquarium and fishes, the Idol of goddess Durga and others will have a 3D effect to live up to the under water theme.
The Kalibari Puja Committee has been pleasantly surprising the people of Barak Valley with their innovations during the Puja and this year it just goes a notch higher, “Last year after the Puja was over, all of us (members) sat for accounting and all. That is when we decided instead of making a Pandal we must do something different and that’s how the idea of Titanic spawned,” informs Roy.
Execution of such an augmented idea which takes one to the world of virtual reality was handed over to the experienced professionals from West Bengal, “A team of 52 experts traveled from Kolkata,” informs Roy. They have been staying here since last 55 days and working round the clock to execute the plan and create the behemoth. “90% of the work is completed, the idol was built inside the pandal itself and we expect the final touches to be done by tomorrow. Other works inside the pandal are done so we are happy with the progress,” asserts Roy.
Last year, the Kalibari Sarbajanin Durga Puja committee estimated a foot fall of five lakh individuals and this year Roy projects the number to double up to 10 – 11 lakh people. “We have been getting a lot of requests from common people to keep the pandal for more than four days. Acknowledging their requests and to ensure that everyone get an opportunity to visit it, we have decided to inaugurate the puja on Chaturthi i.e October 13, 2018,” Roy informs.
Maharaj of Ramakrishna Mission and of Bharat Sevashram Sangha will ceremoniously inaugurate Pandal and idol respectively and that will mark the beginning of a sea of people entering the ocean.
