A look at the initiatives rolled out by Leo Club of Silchar Greater during the festive season
October, the month of our annual festival Durga Puja is special to everyone regardless of their caste, creed, religion and age. The festival signifies the victory of good over evil. A voluntary organization named Leo Club of Silchar Greater has taken up various initiatives throughout this auspicious month, thus coming forward for the people in need.
It started with an online art competition for children on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. Then there was a Food Donation Project on the 8th of October where homeless people in the areas of National Highway point and Bhasha Shahid Station, Silchar were distributed lunch under the initiative of the Regional Chairman. It was followed by an awareness campaign on the occasion of World Sight Day in a few rural areas by the club in cooperation with its parent club, Lions Club of Silchar Greater. The International Day of Girl Child on the 11th of October was observed by organising an awareness campaign on menstrual hygiene followed by the distribution of Sanitary napkins in the interior areas of Meherpur, Shivalik park.
The event was cooperated by Forever Nights NGO and the napkins were sponsored by Subhadeep Dam of Glenmark Company. A Traffic awareness Programme was being organised on the 14th of October accompanied by Leo Advisor, Lion Sabyasachee Rudra Gupta, and the parent club secretary, Lion Debraj Dhar. 3 needy families including patients suffering from cancer were provided with ration for a week on the occasion of World Food Day, 16th Oct. It was followed by donating blood to a serious patient by Leo Jyotish Das.
With the onset of the Biggest Festival, Durga Puja, almost everyone shops for new clothes, while people from financially weak backgrounds can’t afford the same for every member of the family…Thus, Leo Club of Silchar Greater along with its parent club Lions Club of Silchar Greater distributed sarees to women from the Fulertal region of Lakhipur area on 18th October. On the same day, children in the same area were distributed clothes that were sponsored by Leo Rishab Purkayastha.
The three days of Durga puja, Mahasaptami, Mahaasthami, and Mahanavami are celebrated with great enthusiasm and joviality… A mega food drive was being initiated by Leo club of Silchar Greater and Leo club of Silchar Centurion in collaboration with Leo Club of Silchar Central, Leo club of Silchar Royals and Leo club of Silchar under the guidance of ZC, Leo Dhriti Sundar Paul, and RC Leo Tamal Chakraborty for the subsequent three days starting from 23rd October to 25th October.
Well-intended and implemented, this food drive had successfully served the purpose of eradicating starvation among the poor people on the outskirts of Silchar during the puja days thus making the festival a happy one for them.
This was shared by the Club in a Press Release and Barak Bulletin did not edit the same.
