Abandoned child rescued from Hailakandi fights back in Silchar, defeats COVID19; Nibedita Home lauds caregiver
She is a fighter who has already won many battles. Left abandoned at a trash can after birth, the newborn was rescued in Hailakandi by the Childline India officials. After rescuing the child, they dropped it at Nibedita Nari Sangstha Society in Silchar. Two days later, On July 29, she tested positive for COVID19, it was time to fight yet another battle.
The fight is over, and she has won it yet again. The official spokesperson of Nibedita Home informed that both child and her caregiver have tested negative for the virus. “The officials from Sonai PHE had come to test both of them. Yesterday, we were told by the Joint Director, district health department that they have tested negative,” said the spokesperson.
Today, the officials are collecting samples from other kids in the home. The entire building has been sanitised by the administration to ensure the home is safe for shelter.
“Big credit goes to the caregiver who agreed to risk her life and provide care to the infant. The baby is growing and there are no signs of illness,” said the spokesperson.
The management of Nibedita Home had to face a lot of challenges after the news about the girl was published by the media. “The workers, house helps all refused to enter the home and all the work was therefore left for the management to do. The stigma attached with Coronavirus infection is significantly high in the society and that is why such reports bring a lot of damage to the victim,” added the spokesperson.
With the kid and the caregiver testing negative, the management feels they can get their workers back. “It is a safe place to work and there is no risk attached. This is a disease that can happen to anybody and shall not be stigmatised in this manner in the society,” the spokesperson opined.
The joint director confirmed that the kid has tested negative.
