Abandoned infant rescued from Hailakandi, tests positive at Silchar - Nibedita Nari Sangstha

An abandoned infant was rescued by locals from a trash can in Hailakandi’s Sultani Bazar area. The baby was then taken to Hailakandi Civil Hospital and after a preliminary checkup, the baby girl was shifted to Nibedita Nari Sangstha in Silchar.

Today, the infant has tested positive for COVID19. Diba Roy from the Nibedita Nari Sangstha informed that as amendatory protocol they test all the rescued infants for COVID19. “When the kid was brought to us, we kept her in isolation as we were waiting for the reports,” said Roy.

The kid is just a few days old and Roy said she could not notice any complications. “We have not received any calls so far from the parents and it is unlikely that they will stake claims. Now if she has tested positive for COVID19, we will do as suggested by the administration,” added Roy.

Nibedita Nari Sangstha has already given the kid a name- Priyanka. From trash can to the orphanage, it was one heck of a journey for the newborn and now she will have to beat COVID19. It is certain that life has started for her with a bunch of trials, here’s hoping she fights it all.
