Abducted Jubair's dead body recovered from Katigorah, Police arrests two suspects
The dead body of a youth of Bowalipar in Hailakandi district Jubair Ahmed Mazumder, who was kidnapped from his native village few days back, was recovered under mysterious circumstances at Gobindapur, Katigorah in Cachar district on Wednesday.
Jubair, son of the former superintendent of Bowalipar Senior Madrassa – late Maulana Moin Uddin Mazumder, was abducted in a white Alto car by some people from near Bowalipar market area on the evening of January 12. An FIR was lodged with Hailakandi Sadar Police Station by Jubair’s family in this connection. A search operation was thereafter carried out by the police; however, Jubair remained untraced.
On Tuesday night, police held two prime suspects in the kidnapping. Suspects were identified as Shahjahan and Kayum Ahmed. The suspects during interrogation confessed that they abducted Jubair, later killed him and then dug the body in a paddy field near Madhura at Kalain, around 44km from Silchar. Eventually, police rushed to the spot and exhumed the body from the field on Wednesday morning.
Ashiq Ahmed, brother of Jubair, said Shahjahan had told him that he would bring Jubair in exchange of an amount of Rs. 5 lakh. However, Shahjahan disappeared once the money was paid. His cell phone has been in switched off mode since then, he said.
In protest against the killing, a large number of residents along with members of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti blocked National Highway-154 at Bowalipar in Hailakandi district around 5pm this evening. Receiving the information, Hailakandi deputy commissioner J. Keerthi reached the spot and tried to pacify the protesters, who demanded that the murderers be strictly punished and compensation of Rs. 20 lakh be given to the deceased’s family.
The blockade was withdrawn after sometime following assurance from Keerthi that necessary steps would be taken regarding the matter. The last rites of Jubair were performed around 6pm.
