Abhishek Thakuri, Urmila Chaterjee to get SVCC's performer of the year award; Life Time Achievement for Badal Dey, Abhijit Endaw, Sujit Dutta Gupta
Within five years of its journey, Silchar Veteran Cricketers Club (SVCC) has garnered much fame in Silchar’s sporting fraternity. The club formed with veteran cricket players has become the talk of the town not just in Silchar, but in the entire state as a whole and the credit for that goes to the much attractive tournament, Barak Premier League. This club has been organising various events, year-round and other than the league tournaments, its major attraction is the “Performer of the Year Award”. Following the ritual of any other year, this year too the award ceremony will be held on April 17, at Hotel Kalpataru. Based on performance, different players will be awarded titles by the SVCC.
The President of the Club, Bijendra Prasad Singh has announced that, for his best performance throughout the session, the state team’s left-armed batsman and star cricketer Abhishek Thakuri will be awarded the “Performer of the Year Award”. In the male category. In the female category, the “Performer of the Year” title will be awarded to the star cricketer of the state team, Urmila Chatterjee. For striking a century in the inter-district under-19 championship, Abhishek Deb will be awarded the title of “Best Promising Cricketer”. In the female category, the title will be shared by Nikita Nath.
Other than these titles, another major attraction this year is the “Lifetime Achievement Award”. The club secretary Niranjan Das has informed that this year three former star cricketers will be awarded this title. The lifetime achievement awardees are Badal Dey, Sujit Duttagupta and Abhijit Endow. Other than that, for his phenomenal performance in First-Division Cricket, Ranji Star, Pritam Das will also be felicitated by the club. Pritam Das is the first player from Silchar to play in more than 50 matches in First Class Cricket.
Not just cricket, SVCC has always supported all the sports and games. The club will also present awards to Akshita Roy and Biprajit Deb for table tennis, in Athletics, Kutan Paul, Ishita Nath for Hockey, and Sumit Sinha for Badminton and Debarati Deb for Chess. Referee Abdul Majeed Choudhury will also be awarded by the club. India Club will also be felicitated in the same event for their wonderful sportsmanship and also for participating in the Bordoloi Trophy after 68 years and that too qualifying in the semi-finals of the trophy. Along with that, the club will also give away five thousand rupees cash for the Referee Training Centre.
Among their future projects, the club plans to organise a camp with coaches and expert players from other states to train the cricketers of this town. Other than cricket, SVCC is also looking towards expanding their horizon to football and other sports. This club has been supportive of other sports as well. During the COVID Pandemic, the club has supported various players who had financial constraints.
