ACA's Apex Council conducts hearing; Statements recorded, judgement in two days
The hearing of the Golaghat debacle of the JK Baruah inter-district tournament was concluded on Wednesday as scheduled. On February 23, this hearing was called on in the Barsapara Cricket Stadium of Guwahati. The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) who called the hearing, registered the statement of all the parties during that hearing.
On that day, the apex council of the ACA have registered the formal complaint of the Silchar team. The Railway and Jorhat team captains were summoned for the hearing, along with their respective coach and manager. The two controversial umpires along with the match observers were also summoned. Tathagata Deb Roy, the coach of the Silchar under-19 team was present along with team manager Biplab Sharma Purkayastha and team captain Subhajit Paul. Bijendra Prasad Singh, the Secretary of District Sporting Association, Silchar was also present in the hearing.
In the Golaghat JK Baruah Inter-district cricket tournament’s final league match, the NF Railways team intentionally underperformed to stop Silchar from reaching the final. (Read More Here). The Railway team offered unconditional support for the Jorhat team to reach the finals. The two umpires of the match were also a part of this scam. On the last day of the match, once the match was supposed to be called stumps, the main game was played by the two umpires. All these arguments were presented to the ACA by Silchar DSA through a letter. Based on that complaint, the ACA has decided to investigate the case further through their investigation committee.
According to sources, in the hearing of the Apex Council, the Association’s top officials, Ramen Dutta and Debajit Saikia were present. The Silchar team were firm on their position. To prove their stand, the team has also presented all the information, facts and proof very strongly. When reached out to the Silchar DSA’s secretary for his comment on the final decision, he didn’t want to make any statements about it as the probe is still underway. The ACA has investigated the Golaghat episode and the hearing was concluded. The report of the investigation will be presented within two days, he said and hence he doesn’t want to add any comments before that.
