The decline in the numbers should not be treated as an excuse to lower the guard believe experts in Silchar Medical College and Hospital. “We must always keep an eye on the number of admissions daily. Unless it is below 10, the situation remains worrisome. We need to take into account that this is the record of one hospital for a population of more than 35 lakh. There could be many more unreported cases carrying the risk of further contamination which could turn fatal especially for the unvaccinated population,” opined a professor of SMCH who wished not to be named.

20 patients took admission to SMCH’s COVID wards in the last 24 hours and 12 got discharged, informed Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, vice principal of SMCH. He added that currently, there are 110 patients under treatment in the COVID wards. Out of them, 50 are in ICU and 19 on ventilator support. 81 patients are on Oxygen support.
