After 17 days, Rudra Narayan Gupta tests negative; "Please don't socially stigmatise COVID patients," he says

“It took almost 17 days for my body to flush out the traces of Coronavirus. During my 5th swab test (Rt-pcr) on 22nd July, I have tested negative,” informed renowned industrialist, director of Green Heals Hospital and president of Ramanuj Gupta Junior College, Rudra Narayan Gupta.

The doctors conducted a rapid antigen test which too tested negative, he added. Throughout his treatment at Silchar Medical College and Hospital, he was completely asymptomatic. “I am grateful to all who have been supporting me, wished me, and also prayed for my recovery. I owe my recovery to all my coworkers especially Green Heals Hospital, who are part of the organisation I am associated with,” said Gupta.

It is worth mentioning here that many health workers from Green Heals Hospital, got infected while treating patients in the health care centre. Gupta added, “I am indebted to all the authorities of SMCH, Dr Babul Bezbaruah Sir,  Dr. Dwigen Das Sir, Dr (Abhijit) Swami sir including Dr. Devadatta (Dutta) Madam. She monitored my well being as a close family. I take this opportunity to praise the gallantry effort of the Microbiology team, that has been working day in and out to contain this pandemic.”

Gupta said that the department of Medicine in SMCH is like his “extended family”and they kept on motivating him. In my case, (since it was related to health care establishment)  the honorable  District administration and the health department of Cachar played a savior role as their wonderful management and timely intervention have contained the escalation of virus transmission.”

Out of experience, Gupta said, “Please don’t socially stigmatise COVID patients or their relatives. They have not invited this disease on them nor they are spreading this virus willingly. Please don’t treat them or their families as untouchables. They are fighting their individual battle…your little support will make a world of difference to this difficult battle. I am sure we all will courageously overcome this pandemic and humanity will triumph”
