After passenger movement reduces, Spicejet cancels Silchar-Kolkata flight
The Spicejet airlines has cancelled its flight to and from Kolkata for 6th May owing to operational reasons, Silchar airport officials said on Wednesday. The said flight also didn’t land on Wednesday.
“Kind attention all passengers. Spicejet has cancelled its flight SG 32118/19, Kolkata to Silchar and back on 05.05.3021 & 06.05.2021 due to operational reasons” a tweet put out by Silchar AAI mentioned.
However, insiders informed low booking of flights amid the surge of COVID cases, has pushed the airlines to cancel its flights.
At Silchar airport, 5 aircrafts landed from which total of 518 passengers deboarded. As per Cachar administration guidelines, all the incoming passengers are being taken at Model Hospital Tikal and tested there. Cachar health authorities informed, 8 passengers tested positive, on Wednesday, and were sent to isolation.
Meanwhile, in view of the ongoing COVID-91 pandemic, AAI, Silchar Airport has made adequate preparations to meet any exigencies for its Employees and their family.
Officials informed a guest house in the AAI colony has been converted to COVID Isolation centre for asymptomatic & mild symptomatic patients. Necessary equipment and basic monitoring facilities have been provided to take care of the employees and their families in case of any requirement.
The aviation circle has been hit hard by the second wave of the contagious disease. On Wednesday, where footfall was just 690 at the Kumbhirgram airport, data shows on the same day of last year, footfall was 1478.
