After South Karimganj MLA's complaint, Police arrest assistant engineer for siphoning money
An assistant engineer in Karmganj’s Lowairpoa block has been arrested for siphoning money. The engineer has been identified as Sudip Sarkar. Last February, he deposited 50 lakh rupees from South Karimganj MLA’s fund to a relative’s account. South Karimganj MLA Siddek Ahmed later registered a police complaint after knowing about the siphoning of funds.
Acting on MLA Siddek Ahmed’s complaint, Karimganj Deputy Commissioner called Sudip Sarkar to his office. Later, he was arrested by the police.
Speaking to reporters about the incident South Karimganj MLA Siddek Ahmed said, “Sudip Sarkar and Karimganj DDC had a joint account for development works under MLA fund. But when I went to the field I saw that the people who did earthwork weren’t paid off by the engineer.”
The MLA added, “He didn’t give a single penny and kept on delaying the payment for a year by giving lame excuses. Later he transferred the money to some other person.”
