Again Landslide on Silchar - Guwahati NH06 near Sonapur, Shillong; “Efforts on to clear,” Police

Today morning, another landslide was reported in the Sonapur area of East Jaintia Hills. This landslide on National Highway 6 disrupts vehicular traffic between Silchar and Guwahati.

East Jaintia Hills Police took cognisance of the landslide and informed, “Another landslide has occurred on NH06 near Sonapur village this morning. Commuters passing through this route are advised to please be patient as efforts are already on to clear d same.”

It is worth mentioning here that heavy rainfall in Assam has resulted in flash floods in Guwahati. The Meghalaya Government too has issued an advisory predicting flash floods. The government has advised the general public against visiting the rivers and waterfalls.

District Disaster Management Authority of Dima Hasao has also issued an advisory. It reads, “In anticipation of heavy rainfall that is predicted to occur from June 14, 2022, to June 17, 2022, in Dima Hasao as per reports received from Regional Meteorological Center, Guwahati, the public is requested to minimize moving out of their residences other than for emergency requirements or medical purposes.”

It adds, “People residing in and around vulnerable locations are also requested to shift to the nearest safe location or the nearest notified relief camps for immediate shelter if deemed necessary.
