Agartala - Rajdhani to travel via Badarpur today; First train carrying passengers after the landslides
After freight service, passenger train is set to resume service from Monday on hill section, with 02501 Agartala – Anand Vihar Rajdhani Express scheduled ‘On Time’ departure from Agartala.
Railway sources informed, it will also be the first passenger train to roll over the repaired section, which suffered disruption on 1st June after sinkage of the track at km 57/0-1 between Mupa and Maibang stations.
It took 17 days for railways to restore the track. Restoration work involved making of about 1.5 km approach road to take the site to track level and another approach road of about 2 km to reach the toe of the riverbank, Rail piling, Earthwork in filling & cutting, ballasting, track linking, etc.
The original track alignment was non-repairable as a result a slight diversion has also been made at the damaged section.
“1st train passed over the newly diverted portion at 12:00 hrs on 18.06.2020 by a temporary diversion in a length of 317 m,” Northeast Frontier Railway informed on 18th June announcing the restoration of the track.
NF Railway PRO Nripen Bhattacharyya informed that as of now only Agartala Rajdhani Express will run and if required Sharamik Special train will also ply in the section. No decision has been taken yet on the resumption of other passengers/express trains.
